Favourite UK online record seller that isn't Amazon

Posted by: yeti42 on 23 October 2012

I want to wean myself off an Amazon habbit so have bookmarked Piccadilly, Diverse and MDT but who do others use? By the way Piccadilly have Bish Bosch vinyl for half the Amazon UK price.

Besides MDT, I also buy from Crotchet and from prestoclassical.

Another I can recommend is jpc.de, not a UK shop but very well stocked, albeit not the cheapest.

Not UK but deliver everywhere (I'm in Singapore) and their packaging is outstanding; Elusive Disc.

Amazon have a 33% rejection ratio from me on damaged vinyl due to the usless packaging as they dont' have specific sized boxes for vinyl.

Another vote for Diverse, also recordstore.co.uk for singles. Nothing beats the joy however of going into a shop and having a good old root around!

Try also Burning shed, have used them a lot and no complaints.

And for some rarities, try 991.com.

Norman Records for weekly releases & reviews covering a wide range of genres. Recently supplied some excellent Godspeed You! Black Emperor vinyl.

europadisc.co.uk is my primary source, together with amazon.co.uk. Often has useful special offers, and has quite reasonable shipping charges.

Diverse Vinyl, What Records and occasional bargains from Amazon but with a high risk of poor packaging!

Richard,

I've never had a problem with packaging from Amazon unlike HMV who are very poor. Perhaps the problem may be when ordering from Amazons 'Other Sellers'.

I also use Diverse and What Records.

If you don't mind waiting for the post, I have had good experiences with Vinyl Goldmine in Poland. Good pricing, customer service and free delivery with DPD with 5LPs or more.

Naim are not bad.

Thanks everyone,

burning Shed I've used before and I now have a list of 8 other suppliers that seem to cover a broad range. I have a couple of local second hand record shops in town which also do the occasional new vinyl too but their stock is limited and for new classical recordings there's nothing local.

I have 1 Naim CD of some English string quartets but most of their output doesn't appeal judging from the 4 samplers I have, mostly HiFi show fodder.

As well as Diverse I can also recommend Stamford Audio, they do a good collection of 180/200gram vinyl, actually just about to order Radioheads OK computer on 180gram

Not in the UK but this company Are very good.

Its worth Signing up for there news letter. They often have some great vinyl special offers.

You only pay postage once so its worth ordering a few albums at a time.

Fast service to the UK and well packed.

Rock Box in UK and All Your Music in California ....  A couple of decent enough sites I can't use because they are PayPal only and it is not something i'm happy to use. If they changed to use a standard credit card with consumer rights protection then I'd use them, but PayPal = no way, Pedro.

All your music are brilliant but one now gets hit by HMCustoms in the UK if a album is over £14

I have no problem using Debit/Credit cards with Rockbox. Highly recommended

Sorry it was very badly worded in my post

... I use Rock Box lots and it takes credit cards.

The guys there are great and I thoroughly recommend Rock Box

I use All My Music and Paula and crew are excellent too, but as Stu says you can get hit by HM Customs & Excise and a stupid handling charge - I wouldn't mind if it were just the tax.

I meant sites like burning shed ... which I like, but they seem to be PayPal only so not for me.

If they accepted credit cards directly or cheques then that would be a fish of a different colour.

Guy,

You can use credit and Debit cards with burningshed.

I don't use PayPal.

You can send them cheques or even call in if you are up that way for a game.

All music is actually importcds.com and you can order direct and pay by CC.

I try to only use PayPal when paying anything overseas and ebay. PayPal offers you a form of protection and if you pay using your CC then you also can ask your CC to do a chargeback if PayPal rules against you.

I would never use evil bay or PayPal ... Your consumer rights are not the same.

i am happy to trust some shops, but not PayPal. if a shop relies on PayPal or eBay then I simply look elsewhere..

if you're happy with them that's fine.

In the US (although they ship overseas) Music Direct and Acoustic Sounds are my go to sites
