naim on windows 8 well done microsoft
You sound like old people complaining about the new teas made being too complicated.
Yes its different to windows XP, get on board or be left behind, because they are not listening to you.
The slabs they have released look bloody awesome, and this comes from me, an apple fan bois to the end.
I'm not saying it is hard to use, just unfamiliar for a while. I would learn all the foibles and ways of doing things with some time. I'm pretty good at that sort of thing. But I still think the update is pointless from a users' perspective. Who really bloody cares what your "start screen" looks like? Don't you just want your programs (sorry, "apps") to be able to be installed and to run and to be able to navigate to your files? And to be un-installed (completely) when you want. Not to be bothered by viruses, trojans etc without having to run some bloated anti-virus nonsense in the background?
Getting the robust functionality is what users want, not the pretty dancing squares and intrusive scrolling panes. B.T.W. I found the "live tiles" to be so distracting after 10 minutes, I turned them all to static. They're now just icons by another name but with sharp corners and no borders, aren't they?
I'll find out soon, as I've just got an upgraded Vortexbox device, so the old one is getting reconfigured with Win 8 for basic home use.
It might be interesting to pick up this thread again. When Windows 8 first appeared a lot of people seemed to hate it.
A month ago I bought a nice little laptop with Windows 8 on it. I was so put off by the reviews that I tried to get an affordable laptop with Windows 7. But I got Windows 8 on my new machine. I did not get a laptop with a touch sensitive screen - seems to be the worst of both worlds to me.
Now I have learned to live with Windows 8, I love it. The laptop comes to life very quickly and I haven't found any non-compatible programmes. (?apps).
One aspect which is greatly superior to any previous version of Windows is the file coping process. Much faster and more informative.
In summary, I do not think it is worth upgrading if you are already using Windows 7, but I would upgrade from everything else.
