2TB Serve "How to use download folder"

Posted by: Develyn on 27 October 2012

Hi everyone,

I just had my Serve updated to the 2tb version.  With the update adds the capability to add music to the serve that has not been ripped by the serve.  I see the download folder on my computer and have moved an .mp3 file to the folder but it does not show up in my network shares as stated in the manual.  Hoping someone can shed some light on the proper setup procedure.

Thanks!

Maybe you need to do a "refresh"

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not the issue.  It's refreshed on it's own and I've done manual scans several times.

Are you confident the mp3 you moved was correctly tagged?

It shows the album art, the song file is, Who Are You.mp3

I also copied a music file from the Music folder (the other folder that is shown as shared by the Serve) and pasted it to the Downloads>Music Folder.

Have you read page 22 etc of the very latest product manual?  There is info there about accessing the internal Downloads folder.

My uServe is not back from the spa yet, so I can't help based on personal experience yet.

Yes, I have read it several times, at first I thought I missed something, but I've read it so many times I can recite by memory.  I'm starting to wonder if something didn't happen that should have during the update/upgrade.

I have my HDX back wiht the 2Tb upgraded and it works flawlessly. On my Mac, when i see the HDX, the folder "Music" and the folder "Downloads" appear like independant hard drives. I mount the "Downloads' and i just drag and drop my files and folders on it. The HDX most of the time make the update of the base automatically.
It should work. Check your tags again, it may be something out there ?

An other idea is the file contruction database in the folder. Maybe you create a folder with tthe name of the artist, then inside a folder with the album of your file, then put the MP3 file in there.

On my side, i respect extactly the same hierarchy in the downloads folder how Naim arragne the rips. No one file os lost or don't appear.

Make a try ?

Hope it can help.
Cheers

I figured it should be that easy, I believe now it is something to do with the update/upgrade.  I've contacted Sound Organization and hope to have it resolved Monday.  Thanks for the information.

Curious, what do you do to mount the folder?  I also use a Mac and thought it was automatic.

With my 1tb UServe, I could see all of its internal folders in Finder, and could copy files FROM those folders but could not write files to them (because they are protected as they should be).  With the 2tb version I would expect to see the Downloads folder as well, and be able to drag files to it.

Not your case?  Can you at least see the 'old' folders (MQ, etc) in Finder?

Hi, is it tagged though? The title of the file means nothing when it comes to tagging which is appended to the file itself.

Sorry if you understand this. But if its not tagged correctly then the server cannot pick it up.

The safest bet would be to rip something with say itunes or XLD which will tag the files, then copy them over and see how you get on.

Hey everyone, thanks for the input.  Conor from Sound Organisation contacted me via phone and resolved the issue on Monday.  They actually performed the update/upgrade in house and forgot to add the Network Share for the Downloads folder.  We simply manually added the network share and all is good.  It's great that I can quickly buy a .mp3 or hi-res, download it and move it to the Serve all within a minute or less.

Hi Dev -

Just been attempting the same with the download from the Nail Label, "Meet Me In London" but can't seem to do it.

I have copied the entire folder containing the tracks to my pc desktop.

Opened Naim DTC for the 2tb UServe.

On the Left I have the common file structure, shown at the bottom is the symbol for a network with a  designated name of the UServe, \\NSSRV...B\Downloads

I cannot see 'Share' after the 'Downloads'

When I attempt to drag the folder onto this root nothing happens. And when I attempt to drag the folder onto the Album symbol in the root, nothing happens.

In the said folder are the wav tracks and three other files a jpg, a pdf and a winrar zip for metadata.

Do I need to manually add a Share folder to the end of the root???

Additionally, when I right click on the root to attempt to make a "New Folder" , that option does not highlight.

Any ideas chaps?????

Jason, I can add and delete files and folders to the uServe's "Downloads" folder using Finder (on my Mac) and Windows Explorer (I guess that's what they call it) on my PC.  (Win 7).  Just copy and paste / drag 'n drop files to that folder.

The first time you do this, you do need to 'log in' to the uServe and Windows or OS X will ask you for the login name and password you set up on your uServe.
