Another iTunes query

Posted by: Shropshire Hills on 30 October 2012

Does anybody know how to move individual "artists" within iTunes to another 'album"?  I sometimes notice that instead of putting all the tracks on a CD into one album iTunes creates 2 or more albums, especially when an artist has different bands or co-singers on the same track.

It has been a minor irritation until today. I have recently bought "Lady Day"- the Complete Billie Holiday on Columbia (Sony) which comprises 10 CDs with numerous artistic line ups and bands and iTunes has made a real mess of tabulating the tracks.  I have tried but cannot find out how to re-group tracks so they are in the same order as the discs.

Incidentally for any Billie Holiday fans this box set is a real treat and at around £20 on a well known online store is a bargain.

Many thanks

Yes, that's annoying, isn't it?

OK, select all the tracks, then click on "Get Info". In the field "Album Artist" insert Bille Holiday. That should do it!

Select/highlight all the tracks you want to 'consolidate'. Hit cntrl + i, and the information window opens. Simply re-type under 'album artist' what you want (will be blank if it's currently multiple artists). and it will put them all back together for you.

There is an information panel further down where you can keep the performer information if you need to.

I do this a lot for classical records - I'm afraid who composed it is what I want to search for in the ipod, not which particular performer/conductor was on the particular record, which would require a degree of memory power I lost years ago...

Thanks for the help - I will have a go later when I am home

And to go a little further....

If you use Sort Artist to sort the order of your albums, you may also need to fill in Sort Album Artist too (if you've used Album Artist)

Dear Bob,

Please google "iLounge". This is a great website where you will find various "documents to handle metadata" under the help section. It also clarifies your question above

Gavin - thanks for the suggestion - I'm not there yet - some cd's are no problem but my recently bought 10 cd Billie Holiday box set had sub-divided into many small fragments!

Iver - thanks for referring me to iLounge - it's a really useful site

Cheers
