Controlling NDS by ipad mini - help is needed

Posted by: pz on 10 November 2012

Dear Mates!

My NDS have been just delivered which is a great thing for me!

Previously I used an NDX and also have a small "home network"

consisting of a small Netgear gigabit switch a Synology NAS and

an NDS from now on. I always missed the possibility to display

album and cover arts on the NDX green screen and NDS also have

similar screen functionality.

Decided to controll NDS by my iPad mini/naim controlling application

installed on it which - as I heard - is possible.

The problem begins here:

I do not know how to connect my iPad mini the above mentioned "network"

wirelessly. As I heard it must be connected that  way.

Please be so kind to help me out, I am relatively new to streaming.

I suppose I have to connect a wireless router/access point to the Netgear switch

first but do not know what else should be done and how.

Any posts, assistance and detailed instruction are welcomed.

It's usually seamless once the NDS and n-stream app use the same network, the n-stream (iPAD) wirelessly and presumably the NDS wired.

Hi pz

tHis should be easy.

Press the 'spanner' on the NDS remote -SET UP

Select FACTORY SETTINGS, then SYSTEM STAUS and find the IP address (numbers with full stops. Note this address and then exit SET UP.

On the iPad Mini, on the n-Stream app.

Find the little cog in the bottom right, press. Have auto connection OFF (white dot).

Enter IP address at the top and all should be done.

Regards

Hi pz, welcome to wireless networking!  You are absolutely right, first you have to connect a wireless router to the Netgear switch.  IF the router is set for wireless operation and IF it is set to allocate IP addresses to things it finds on the network (DHCP is on) then all will happen almost automatically.

After connecting the router and then turning it on, wait a few minutes then power down then up again the NAS, then do that with the NDS (power off then on) - this will allow the router to give them both an IP address.

After that, go to the spanner on your ipad and look for network settings. Select YOUR wireless network by name and then enter the WIRELESS KEY (or password) that is usually printed somewhere on the back or bottom of the router.  That allows the ipad to connect to your router.  Then download the naim n-stream app, start it up and it should find the NDS and off you go !!

My advice is opposite to badlyread, in that I work happily without messing with fixed IP addresses as he suggests - however you pays your money and you takes your choices !

"Bon chance" as I think they say in Salisbury !

pz:

One thing to be aware of--if the NDS is anything like the Superuniti--if, once it is connected using iRadio, it suddenly stops on "Connecting", rather than reboot the whole thing, some kind soul (I think it was naimUnT,) on the forum taught me to go into the tools (spanner button)/Network settings/ and turn DHCP on, even though it appears to be on already.  As I say, may be a non-issue with your unit.

PZ I have a very similar setup -- my NDS has been here just two week, and I have a Synology nas as well.

Once you have a wireless router at home, I would be happy to talk you through any difficulties.  My wireless network was in place and when I turned on my NDS the first time it seemed to go flawlessly.  Happy to help you with the Synology settings too; those are not entirely intuitive either.

Cheers,

Bart
