About to buy a Unitiqute...
Posted by: Naimist on 14 November 2012
Hi all,
Just joined the forum although I have been reading this forum for a while now. Anyhow, I couldn't resist the Unitiqute price cut any longer and I'm about to pull the trigger! Do any current owners have any advice, hints or tips? Source will be an Apple TV (1st gen) connected via optical. Speakers are Sjofn 'The Clue' (similar to Guru QM10s).
Can't wait!
Good choice, I realise the Naim sound is not for everyone, but I love it.
My advice is:
- Get it set-up by your dealer. (This is expected by Naim of their dealers)
- Pour yourself a nice glass of wine (or alternative beverage of your choice), sit back and enjoy the tunes.
- Buy more tunes.
- Do not ever visit the forum again and instead bask in the joyous sound (visiting this forum leads to upgraditis and unreasonable disattisfaction with what is actually very good music)
ps - I have not taken my own advice on point 4
No advice, just the comment that the Qute is an elegant little device that sounds great into my nSats. I use it every day. Highly recommended.
Just taken the plunge myself and found it very simple to set up - no help needed. Admittedly, I've already got a Superuniti (away for attention at Naim sadly, so 'Qute keeping me company), but I thought that was really simple to set up too. A great device at a lower price. They should have used that as a slogan
Jobseeker,
Sorry to hear that your SU is back with Naim - hopefully nothing too serious?
I have a Qute as well (currently in getting a little issue with the optical connection sorted out) hooked up to an Apple TV via optical into Epos M5's. The sound is great and I have it playing all of the time.
Enjoy!

If you plan to watch HD TV then you really need a TV that will down mix 5.1 sound to stereo. Otherwise you will just get a nasty clicky noise from the speakers.

Sometimes doesn't power up correctly after switch-off (naim logo lights up but nothing else) and needs a couple of power cycles. Seemed to be getting worse so Naim are checking it out. All arranged very smoothly via Lintone Audio and Naim. I can recommend Lintone to anyone.
I'm a little confused. What purpose does the Apple TV serve in this setup? The QUte is a streamer by itself.
PinkHamster - I won't be using the Qute's streaming functionality at all. I only want to use it's DAC, internet radio and amp functions, in a neat all in one box. Best way of getting the Naim sound for digital sources for less than a grand! My Apple TV has a hard drive with my collection on it, no streaming required at all. And no computer needed.

My unit doesn't have the upgrade board so I was streaming my itunes alac files through the ATV3 into the Qute's toslink input.
I have now moved away from this and am streaming FLAC files instead...sounds much better.
Congrats Naimist. I think the unitiqute is just about the coolest product on the market right now. I almost bought one to use as an ipod dock via digital out into my Supernait, that is how much I want one, but in the end can't justify the $ to use it just for that. I'm sure you are going to love it.
I've got mine on order and really looking forward to getting it. I heard it on the end of those KEF special edition speakers cracking sound for the money. Its even better value now IMO at £995 pound one of the reasons I decided to get one.
I've just stuck a pair of System Audio Mantra 30's on the end of mine. What a well-kept secret they are !

I haven't heard it on the end of any other speakers I'll be using it with monitor audio in wall speakers. Home cinema was my passion for a long time but I sold off all the kit and I'm starting over . I'm a bit fussy with kit and I can honestly say the uniti range has really impressed me.
Yup - UnitiQute in my bathroom with a set of JBL Control 1's (because they don't get affected by the humidity too much) and a Miller & Kriesel VX-7 sub ...
I think it sounds great but people that use my bathroom seem to think I'm insane...

I don't know if there is a Mrs Harris or not, but if there is she must be incredibly accommodating..

There was ... and she said I couldn't have a TVR so I retired her.
The last one also should have known better - after all I did tell her about the ex-Mrs Harris and the TVR but when she saw the DBLs and said "They're never coming into any house that we have together" I don't think she realised that she was actually giving me an option rather than an ultimatum and, as I've said before, I did miss her for a while...
The "current" is much more aware and was sat in a music shop yesterday (when I was auditioning some active studio monitors for my own use) and she came out with "No - I really don't think those Rokits sound anywhere near as good as the Focals you borrowed last weekend ... yes, I know they're less than half the price but I don't like them and you'll hate them - just stop messing about and get the Focals..."
Now she's trying to find us a place for us to move in together and her main criteria are 2 bedrooms (so we can have our respective parents to stay), gas (rather than electric or oil) heating, and a living room big enough to get the next size of projection screen up from mine into as she would like a 3D projector but doesn't think my 8ft screen gives a large enough field of view.

It must be true love.... You are not related to a rather large Tudor king are you????
Couldnt work out the motivation on Oil heating. I use that (well actually dont have much choice) and currently it appears the cheapest option out there by a nice margin.... Short of felling your own trees for a wood burner..
