airport extreme wireless connection to qute
Posted by: minnow on 16 November 2012
Hi hoping someone can help here. Just got the Qute home and for some reason I can't get it to see/connect to my extreme wirelessly. I think I can see my network (though the name looks not as it should) but when I input my wireless password it says it can connect. Any thoughts? Is it a setting on my extreme? I note that under the network settings, the name is Qute-9fa3. Should that be my network name?
Thoughts very very welcome.
Was hoping to spend saturday night listening to streamed files!

Why does the name 'look not like it should'
Your wireless name is just that and its that you should be connecting too nothing else.
agreed - changed my password and all I get i can't login press ok to re-try.
Aaaargh
Okay - help someone - got my extreme up and running again - still my Qute will not allow me to connect to my wireless network using my password.
So I started adjusting the Qute's IP address, etc, to match my extreme.
Still no joy.
Is there a sharing setting somewhere that I have missed in my extreme set up?
I notice also that I have the same problem trying to connect my Panasonic TV - won't recognise m password.
Help, help, help please.
Hi, you can try and make suretyourself wireless encryption is the same on your extreme and qute.. Try making sure they are both WPA2.
If your qute can see the wireless network, then it is a case of ensuring passwordsse encryption and DHCP / fixed IP settings are set correctly.
But if your Panasonic TV won't connect either.. It sounds like your Extreme isnot working as it should, and assuming encryption is the same, the password isn't what you think it is.. Have you got some capitals in there???

For the sake of testing turn wireless security off for ten mins and see if you can connect.
if you can connect, try a simple password with out funny characters and try again.
ensure the extreme is bang up to date.
use for now dhcp, do not try setting anything, when you say 'ip to match the router' thats a concern.
finally if nothing works hard rest the extreme and start again.
Suffice to say plenty of people have an extreme with naim gear so its just configuration!
+1 to Gary's advice.

OK - look at what you have logically...
1) Your Qute won't connect so you have an issue which is either at the Qute "end" or at your router "end".
2) Your Panasonic TV won't connect either so it seems that you have a general problem connecting to your wireless network from both devices - logic would therefore suggest that the issue is with the password or encryption.
Now, I would normally suggest that as a first step you try hard wiring your Qute to your router just to make sure that everything works as it should and I would still recommend doing this as a test.
GaryI has suggested turning off your wireless encryption which is a sensible quick test (of course you want to put it back on afterwards) but I would suggest setting your wireless password to something simple (I usually use "sirhenrywibble" as a quick test) and seeing if you can connect then. You'd be amazed at the number of people who can't exactly remember their wireless password!
BTW the network name of "Qute-xxxx" that you're seeing is the name of your Qute on the network - it has nothing to to with your WiFi network SSID or password. You can change "Qute-xxxx" to something more meaningful should you have multiple units - for example "Kitchen" or "Lounge" and then you see that name reported in n-Stream so you know which device you're controlling.
Cheers
