Superuniti or Majik DSM?
Posted by: Roman Kozyrev on 17 November 2012

I'm not sure anyone can properly answer that for you. The Linn has some features and functionality that the Superuniti does not (connectivity, upsampling etc.) and there will be some operational differences in the control apps. I guess you need to decide if that has any bearing on your decision. It is very difficult to compare the sound of two different items in different rooms and with different loudspeakers. Getting each for home trial would be your only way to be sure.
Get the naim.
Get the naim.
+1 You will not have any regrets if you get the SU
I certainly don't have any regrets (even though the damn thing has had to go back to Naim for investigations into a problem).
I listened to them both when I was auditioning a SU and NDX/ supernait .The dealer played the linn majik DSM, akurate DSM , the SU and the NDX/ SN. Speakers used were PMC twenty.23s. To my ears the Linn Majik DSM was the worst sounding piece of kit by a long margin. So I would get the SU.

APT - how would you describe the comparison SU vs. NDX/SN? Looking at your profile I see you went for the latter. Did you find the margin to be huge or rather subtle? Thanks tp
TP,
I felt the sound of the SU on its own was great but when I compared it to the NDX/SN combo , I found the music to have more depth and warmer. I instantly preferred the NDX/ supernait. It was not a decision I had to think too much about.
Regards
At the price difference, I should jolly well hope so
Not the SU but have had a NDX at home dem with Cremona M, also a fully acktiv MDSM with Linn 140 speakers. To me the Linn sounded warm / soft with no real bite, emotion or reverb. I suspect some with like the sound as being 'nice'.
For me no contest.........it was the NDX but with the SF Toy Towers
I know there are guys out there who love their Linn, which is fair enough, but their streamers really have never done it for me, at my last job, before setting up HiFi lounge, I did many Linn v Naim streamer demo's and 9 out of 10 went with Naim, they are just so much more musical, not so sterile. When setting up this place a few months ago I had a clean sheet of paper when it came to brands, I was really desperate to get Naim on board but Linn never entered my thoughts, so I guess I chose Naim over Linn
Go with the SU Roman, it's a fabulous bit of kit, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Paul, Your opinion is of high value for me - 9 out of 10! Were there any preferable loudspeakers to work with Naim for those 9?
Roman, SU with Cremona M sounds very balanced and very musical.
I auditioned this setup in a small room and the speakers were against the wall which reinforced the bass.
I was surprised how convincing and controlled the system was.
All my previous auditions of Cremona M with anything else never left any chance for these speakers. I think Cremona M is tricky but with a right amplification and room setup it can show its best. Naim is surely a good match.
Majik DS is a bit lifeless to my liking and I expect Majik DSM will carry the same character.
It seems that you are looking for integrated solution but if you consider ADS this will be a very different story. It's much more open, transparent and detailed sound than SU and very musical too. But again I prefer to run ADS with Naim amplification especially with Cremona M.
As for the Paul's opinion on "many" Linn streamers -- it seems that "many" does not include KDS/1.
Would be very weird to call it sterile
Besides, ADS/1 can win the hearts of many naimophiles too.

Roman: I have not heard the Linn, and my experience lies solely with the Superuniti, but I do love it and the sound it makes with my speakers. Best regards and good luck with your search.
Russ
Roman you have already purchased your equipment?
How does it sounds? Maybe I'll buy the same thing (:
(i'm from russia too)
How small is your room if Cremona M does not fit?
Hi, My room is 36 sq meters, but as Cremona requires some certain place around it doesnt fit in harmonically... as installation place is not in the middle
That is very good to hear. I bought a SuperUniti four months ago and use it with PMC GB1i speakers. Like you I listen every day and really enjoy it. I added a Powerline to mine, which made a good improvement.
