How to connect UnitiServe SSD to Synology DS412+

Posted by: MichaelSch on 22 November 2012

I have some problems with my new UnitiServe SSD as it cannot find my Shared Folders in the Synology DS412+ ... how do I make them connect?

I installed the MediaServer package in the DS412 and it is running. My SuperUniti finds it perfectly on the network, but I cannot manage to the US web interface to find it. It scans the network, but never finds it.

So, I guess the manual way of connecting is the only way, but how do I do that?

I have tried to create a "Network Store", but have no luck. What do type at the "Enter share name" line after the "\\" or instead of ?

In the DS412 I have created a shared folder called "Music". I have also created a user for the US to use ...

Regards,

Michael

... and I am running latest SW version 1.6d on the US. I am using the web interface since I have a Mac.

I'm having the same problem. The US does not see the 412+, but my laptop and other computers in the house do, i.e. I can copy files, see the shared folders, etc. Are there any special settings required by the US to see the 412+? I've created new shared folders and have music server running. I've even created a shared folder called Naim Music Store, but nothing worked. I don't think the 412+ sees the US because I don't see it in the UPnP device list. I assume I should see it there.

I'm on a dlink switch, i.e. the 412+ and US are connected to the switch. I have an Apple Airport Express connected to it as well which provides wifi access with my main network.

You need to create a shared folder in the 412 - and make sure it has no access restrictions, meaning "guest" shall have read/write priviliges - and no password.

You need to create one shared folder for the Music Store - the name can be anything.

My share folder is named NaimAudio in the DS412+. My DS412+ has the network name "DiskStation", so in the US you create a "Music Store" by typing the address "\\DiskStation\NaimAudio" in the web-interface.

Make sure to keep the user name field clean, also make sure to clean the password field, by backspacing enough to make certain it is clean (it will still show the 4-5 asterix). Then push NEXT.

Then I have a "Music Share" which is a folder called NaimDownloads, so the Music Share is addressed by \\DiskStation\NaimDownloads in the web interface.

With help from Naim, I finally got it to work - without actually figuring out what the problem was.

You don't need to run a music server (media server) on the DS412+ as the US does not use it. It connects directly to the shared folders. The media server will only be useful for other media devices who needs to access media files on your DS412+.

The switch should not be a problem.

It is NOT the DS412+ that shall see (connect to) the US. It is the other way around - the US that connects to the DS412+.

Thank you. Going in and manually adding the diskstation did it. Not sure why it doesn't see it automatically. I am now ripping my music.

Let us know if you have any issues -- plenty of UnitiServe  owners here who also have nas's, including me.

BTW what pre and power amps are you using now?  Did you sell the stuff you had on a'gon a while back?

Hi, I'm using an Ars Sonum Filarmonia SE tube integrated, Merlin VSM-MMM speakers, Palmer turntable, Superline, Hicap DR and the UnitiServe. For a DAC I'm using a Weiss DAC202. I haven't really been able to listen to it much yet. The analog setup sounds wonderful and that gets most of my listening time. I'm still thinking about an NDS. I might get an NCSE integrated to replace the Ars Sonum, but not sure yet. I had one in the system for awhile and it sounded absolutely beautiful. I had never heard my CDS3 sound so good.

I started out using the UnitiServe connected directly to a dac (the Naim dac) and now have the NDS.  I still use the UnitiServe, but as a true uPnP server over wired ethernet to the NDS.  Do listen to the NDS if you get a chance; big cost, but big sound imho.

Glad to hear you're up and running with the ripping and playing!
