The site looks OK. I didn't click through to payment, though. If they take Visa or Mastercard, you're likely OK as these cards' consumer protection is pretty good. Look to ensure that the payment page where you enter your details is https. Use a card with a lowish limit and that is independent of your other finances. When you set up your account with them, make sure you use a unique password that can't be used to derive passwords you use for other things. Be sure to use bogus answers to security questions (but that you can remember!). If they only take Discovery Card, Money Order, Wire Transfer etc, then they're bent. Run like hell.

I would not touch it with a barge pole. If you look under the "contact us" link there is no telephone number. Just a postal address.

If you google Microraptor as a business you can see it is just a postal address and ....

(2,457 companies also use this postcode, this is probably a mail forwarding service address)

There looks to be a genuine company in St Albans with a very similar name. It might be worth speaking to them.   http://www.stalbansreview.co.u...rchallenge/highspek/

Finally, check out this Amazon page. Same company, same VAT number, different address.

It's got "scam" written all over it.

There is a very simple rule in cases like this: if it is too good to be true, then it probably is.

I'd agree with Redmires, look elsewhere (maybe wait for the January sales?) for your bargains.

One very quick way of finding out about a company is to Google their name followed by "complaint" or "review".

Redmires,

You have provided a very impressive response and should be commended for the effort made.

I have no interest in the thread, but was in admiration of your efforts for a fellow Naimee. well done

Thanks for the comments Paul. I would do this for anyone as I hate to see people scammed. I once had a credit card cloned and I know it's not a pleasant experience.

One thing I always do when I buy from a company online is to use google maps and put in the postcode. If I see a shop/business then it's usually a good sign. If I see a private house or holding company then I proceed with caution.

Yes, nice work Redmires. My response seems a bit naive in comparison. I did some more Googling and they wouldn't get my money.
