If you like your Coverflow - DONT upgrade to iTunes 11 !!!
Posted by: totemphile on 29 November 2012
Just done it and it's gone, no Coverflow in iTunes 11.
One of the best things about iTunes and they erased it from version 11??
How disappointing!!
I very rarely use cover flow.
I won't miss cover flow at all .. Never saw the point of it,
i'll be upgrading to iTunes 11 in the morning.

Guido, would like to seek your advice. Does the Bit Perfect work together with latest iTune 11 ??
They did not mention in their blog.
Cover-flow gone...good riddance to a most worthless non-innovation. I hope Apple starts removing it from everything else now.
What's coverflow?
What's coverflow?
I think it's the feature that flips through the cover artwork, juke-box style.
Just had a fiddle with 11.
Vastly different appearance. But I'd say it could be slightly more user friendly with more options as to how the file-base is displayed.
Sounds better? Dunno.
IMO, if you use Remote App to navigate your iTune, the new changes won't matter much especially the coverflow.
It's also lost the option for the black background which I preferred.
BitPerfect still working well.
Cover flow? looked at it about 3 times years ago. At the time I thought it was just showy. As others have said, if you use the Remote App you won't miss it. I much prefer the changes they have made to the Remote App on the iPad. Will investigate iTune 11 later once the early adopters have stumbled over any issues. I don't like to be on the "bleeding edge" with these things unless I'm participating in Beta testing and even then I do it on a test system NOT my live one.
It's good to hear that Bitperfect is still working though.

+1 but I am still holding back my move for now....
I think '11' just means that it plays louder.
I upgraded last evening and rather like the snazzy new look.

No problems here ... installed iTunes 11 and it just worked ... check that BP was still doing its magic with sample rate selection and it was .... don't you just love it when things just work .... I wish all software was like that.
A quick couple of questions for those who may know the technical answers.
Does Bit Perfect serve any other purpose than to make selection of various [non CD standard] bit rates easy? Is the process automatic?
As it goes, I have been using iTunes in the unadorned original form [as updated simply from time to time] for several years now, and have no criticism of anything about it in the simple vanilla state.
I have not upgraded to the new version yet, and will wait for anything adverse to be sorted out, if anything turns up! It never has in the past though.

On the whole the upgrade is well worth it, even if it has meant losing Coverflow. Really like the new design and functionality. This puts iTunes at the forefront of music library management. Macbook Pro on the top shelf of my Fraim, connected via WWSN6 into nDAC, sweet.
Controllable from anywhere in the flat via Remote. Big improvements there too.
Naim have a long way to go.
IMHO of course...
George, you should really try it, worth the 5 or 6 quid it costs. I know you prefer aiff to alac and if you heard differences in those,I'm sure you will appreciate the sq gains in bit perfect. In a nutshell it takes over the data transmission from iTunes and works in the background. After initial easy setting up it takes over and works without you having to do anymore with it. It can be disabled with a quick click.
It does upsample etc. if required but I don't bother with that.
Regards Andrew.
ps didn't think you would ever get rid of your Aune?
Really like the new design and functionality....
As I don't use itunes more than I have to I updated and took to the opportunity to check for phone application updates - not sure I can remember where it was hidden and it took a while to find.
They certainly worked to make it harder.
Surprised anyone would miss coverflow, just an awful way of looking.
I have just updated after reading this thread...I like the new interface and just downloaded some free podcasts from the itunes store - didn't even know you could do that.
(recommend any Orbital fans to check out the live KEXP podcast)

Bit Perfect uses its own playback engine that "could" sound better. But personally, I've never noticed any SQ difference with any of these plugins. I use Bit Perfect only for the automatic bit-rate and word-depth switching.
Yes the process is automatic. But you do have to switch BP back on when you re-start iTunes (the way I have it set up, anyway - there may be a way to have it automatically start buried somewhere in the OS).
I just don't understand where iTunes fits into that.
You say from NAS via Nstream to NDS.
What does iTunes have to do with it? I guess I just don't understand streaming. Or what the NDS does. Or what NStream does. I though the NDS played the files after they were sent from the NAS.

Yes - it plays from memory, so less wear and tear on the discs.
The other advantage for you, but not me, is it hogs the USB port and makes sure only audio from iTunes uses it when its playing ...
I wonder, but no idea if it is good move, if you avoided USB and went for an optical connection if that might give a cleaner sound ... the optical connection provides complete electrical isolation ... it is definitely a better option than a MF V-Link USB convertor when using a Naim DAC, but that doesn't mean it will be for all DACs. Unfortunately, an optical connection is not cheap though ... if you are using USB a good cable is beneficial - one that isolates the power feed, which your DAC, doesn't need, would be nice.

This is Apple, not Microsoft, it just works - think you'll like it as there is much less clutter
Lastly, can I reiterate my philosophy that these tweaks can make a small difference, but not like changing a DAC or what comes after .... I know you'll agree that changing your Quads for different speakers would make far more differences than a change of USB cable. However, as you have a stable after DAC system, the tweaks may be worth a go.
All the best, Guy

+1 ... not sure why iTunes is involved in this process.
FWIW if nStream can't tell Steve Stills from the Captain then its deaf in my view .... is this Beafheart in the SAM period, TMR period or Unconditional Guaranteed ...
