SPDIF from TV to Uniti does not work

Posted by: yxz123 on 02 December 2012

I tried to connect my ORION TV32LB2000 via coax cable to my Uniti, but "no signal" in display. TV uses internal digital cable tuner. All available settings of TV are set to "stereo, no surround, no dolby".
Connection from my PC to Uniti works with the same cable: SPDIF out from onboard soundchip, settings to PCM/stereo in BIOS.
I have checked the signal level from both sources (TV and PC) with an oscilloscope: 0,8Vpp, 3MHz. That seems OK.
According to support hotline of ORION, they have tested with an ORION AV receiver: When changing the audio language settings at TV from "german (dolby)" to "german", the receiver's dolby LED went off.
I am not sure, which format is sent from the TV and which different formats can be decoded by the Uniti.
Has anybody an idea what to test or change?

Is it coax or optical you thread title and discription are confusing.

Usually tvs output at SPDIF optical. If so with it plugged in at TV end is there a red light at the end, that would at least determine if its outputting.

If its not lit then there must be a setting to tell it to output to external speaker, certainly on my samung you have to tell it to output to external speakers to get the digital to operate.

If it is lit, then have you checked that the PC works through the same input on the uniti?

Even if 5.1 were being delivered you would hear distortion through the speakers, so to my mind the orion simply is not outputting.
