Unitiqute

Simply put this is one of the best value for money components I've ever had. Its running two in wall monitor Audio speakers, panasonic 50gt50 tv with a connected blu-ray via optical connection, stored i-tunes on a qnap nas drive which is hard wired to the router and then from router to unitiqute.

The sound quality from such a small box is utterly staggering. I didn't think it would be this good but its room filling detailed sound.

I'm happy with mine.

And if you ever fancy adding a nice old Naim power amp as I did you will find it capable of even more.

When they bring out an updated half-width one, I will

Probably the best value for money product in the range.

Neil, I have a UQ in my bedroom and the bigger brother, SU in the lounge. When I hear the UQ in the room I'm sometimes gobsmacked with how good it sounds compared to the SU. Of course the SU sounds better, but the gap is much less than one would expect. As I always say, the UQ is the cheapest way of enjoying the Naim sound. Just one question - is it possible to route the files in your NAS directly into the UQ and play the files directly from the UQ?

I love mine too!

I love mine too - what a fantastic bit of kit.  I've paired it with some Kef LS50 speakers on Custom Designs FS104 stands, and it really does sound stunning!

Hi Mharttpalmer,

KEF LS50 - UQ looks very enticing indeed. Before taking the plunge I wonder what other monitors were in the running (or preceding the KEFs)?. The only concern for me is the 85dB sensitivity of the KEFs despite of the general consensus that the UQ's 30W are quite efficient.

Hi Vik

I did try some other monitors - the PMC 20.21 and some Monitor Audio Gold speakers.  The PMC were good, but I found them quite laid back and consequently a little dull.  The Monitor Audios were too edgy in the treble for me.  The Kefs, however, immediately grabbed my attention from the moment I started listening to them, and that attention never diminished at all.  They're a fantastic pair of speakers for the money, and the perform really well on the Custom Designs stands.

I'd be interested to hear your opinion of them.

Cheers

Hi Mark,

Thank you very much for your feedback. Indeed, the MA Gold were also on my radar and being a current user of PMC (GB1) I want something different. I am auditioning the UQ in January and the dealer proposed ProAc D1 and Elac BS 253, personally I am leaning towards N-Sats (proven synergy, albeit not easy to source) and the LS50 - based on the general stir they've created worldwide and their relative high VFM in part due to online distribution. I will comment soon.

Cheers,

Vik

Does anyone have a feeling as to whether i would be left wanting if i changed my nait 5i for a unitiqute?

Does the unitqute stream alac  in 192khz form?

i know proof is in the listening by opinions welcome

Poggy

I ran my Qute by itself through nSats for over a year and loved it. For fun I ran the Qute through my Nait 5i into the nSats. Going through the 5i is very noticeably better but only if you do the comparison. If you don't compare you won't feel shortchanged with the Qute.

Poggy,

I went from a Nait 5i to the Uniti a couple of years ago but I must say, as much as I enjoy the genius behind the all-in-one Uniti, the Nait 5i was very very special. Yet some compare the Qute to the Nait 2 so, as you say, try and compare. All upgraded and new UQ with the 24/192 digital board will play ALAC Apple Lossless files natively and HD music up to and including 24 bit 192kHz files.

Cheers,

Vik

Can you turn inputs off I only have iradio, TV and network anyway to turn the others off?

One of my friend ordered a UQ and a pair of KEF LS50. I went to his place and had a listen of his system, and I must say it did sound really good with a full sound, definitely a beautiful sounding system!

Neil, yes indeed! In fact the Uniti range has a useful function which allows you to switch off inputs that are unused. It's a good idea to switch off unused inputs anyway, I think it should improve the SQ as well. Go to 'Input', choose the input you want to switch off, and then under 'Enabled' select 'No'.
