Need a NAS

Posted by: Lewy on 09 December 2012

Hi guys

I require a NAS for my home network running Windows Home Server 2011

With one eye on the potential to move to a NDS in the distant future, can anybody recommend a NAS with 3/4TB of storage (don't require RAID as yet)

Was looking at Synology DS213air.

Any good for my future Naim needs?

Kind regards

It looks fine, but i don't think the Synology NAS's are WHS-based. If you want a "NAS" running WHS 2011, I'd suggest an AssetNAS Premium V2, for instance or something from HP (see ripcaster.co.uk). adca

adca quite right, Synology nas's do not run WHS.

Lew, any particular requirement for WHS?

Hi guys

By "running WHS" do you mean Windows Home Server?

If so, I already run WHS 2011 on a purpose built server that connects all my media devices, Internet TV, Internet Blue-Ray Player, HD cable, etc, etc

Does the above help at all?

I suppose there is  reason why you do not just put a 3 or 4 tb disk in the server?

Claus

Yeah there is, prefer the HDD's in a NAS unit as the server operates other web-based functions for me

So the best deal you can get on one of the 2 bay nas Synology Readynas or qnap.
