iTunes 11 improving the search engine tip (i.e. restoring iTunes 10 search)

Posted by: Guido Fawkes on 20 December 2012

If like me you prefer the iTunes 10 style of search engine then simply click the arrow in search box to bring up the options ... the first of these will be ticked "Search Entire Library" ... click it and the tick will go away ...

Now your search function will behave just like it used to do ... clicking on Lost Carla in mine finds Carla Bley's The Lost Chords album .... with the √ "Search Entire Library" it finds nothing.

The reason is that Apple want to provide found so far feature, which is too cumbersome if you allow search on anything ... why this was the default as probably a reflection of the target market.

As many of use us iTunes with Naim DACs I thought this may be useful info.

The mini is now updated with the latest iTunes, and, as per your instructions, the search engine is as good as it ever was. Brilliant, and thanks again!

I am keeping the mini totally un-used for any other process. This is posted with my PC.

Every post from Guido especially on streaming is mighty helpful to me.

That's the reason my Mac Mini ---> nDAC sounded so bloody good to my ears.

Brilliant. My hat off to you!!!

Can I ask what is the general consensus on itunes' midi & equaliser settings on mac mini?
I found without the equaliser, it sounded flat.

I think the general consensus is to leave it all flat, and any digital volume controls at max, or bypassed. But they are your ears and your room. Whatever sounds best to you IS best. For best results in digital eq and volume adjustment it is advisable to up-sample to 24 or 32 bits (or start with high def to begin with) before doing the adjustments. Less in formation is lost in the calculations that way. I don't know how Mac OS or iTunes deals with this stuff, though.

You might play with positioning of your speakers a bit. This is nature's equalizer as it alters the way the low frequency sounds (which are most readily reflected and influenced by the room and position) and high frequency sounds interact, and their relative volume levels.
