Unlock draft posting
Posted by: GeeJay on 24 December 2012
Folks,
I've been compiling a new draft post (and saving regularly), however have just been given message that I can no longer edit it ("You can only modify this within 60 minutes of originally posting"), and it only gives me option to delete it - I can't even post it. Wasn't aware of the 60 minutes limit.....
Any way that I can recover what I've written, or is it lost forever?
Many thanks.
some of us compile posts in Word than copy/paste into the Naim Forum.
avoids the problem you now have
Your best bet, if you haven't deleted it, is to try to copy it from the forum into Word, modify it ad nausium, then re-post
Cheers
Don
Thanks Don.
Issue is that I never got to post it - it's still in my 'pending posts' folder (Forums\Your Pending Posts). If I could somehow open it (which I can't do), I would edit it in Word (or 'Pages' on the iPad).
Hopefully Adam or Richard can unlock it or mail me the words (pretty please?).
Thanks again
George
Just to hijack this a little, anyone else have problem with arrow keys not working in posting/reply box?
Nope, but a post did freeze up a couple of hours ago and this hasn't happened in quite a while.
Cheers
Don
Posting can be a little fickle at times, esp when embedding images or other media. I've found that if something doesn't work, sometimes clicking the "Toggle WYSIWYG" (lower right of the editing box) can get the desired effect.
Also, it should be made explicitly clear by the moderators that you only get 1 hour to edit a new post, as anything longer (e.g. If there's a distraction like a phone call) will result in your draft message being locked out and effectively lost.
Very frustrating, especially as no guidance on this given in the forum rules.
George.
From the forum rules, which are clearly not familiar to you:
As a member you can make posts - these can be edited for some 15 minutes ...

Thank you George (cool name by the way!), however the post was locked out at the draft stage, and got locked out before I even had a chance to post. It's still in the 'pending posts' folder, but inaccessible because of the 60 minute rule (which I have still not seen printed despite your note).
Surely, a post is not a post until it is posted!
Hopefully that clarifies the issue - the post never got posted, and was locked out at the draft edit stage.
Happy Christmas to all.
George
It does sound like the clock starts from the moment that you hit the post reply icon to bring up the dialogue box to compose in.
For myself, I always found 15 minutes far too short to guarantee that I could iron out all the typos. It did lengthen to about 40 minutes a year or two ago [might be longer - time flies], and now seems to be 60 minutes.
You do get used to the quirks, and it is no guarantee that a post will work even if it is submitted Sometimes - very rarely - it gets lost in transmission.
If you have a long and seriously thought out post, it is certainly best to make a word.doc first and then cut and past it.
ATB from George.
Thanks George - good advice and I will heed for next time.
Reason I am miffed, is because as you say, it took me quite some time to compose, and contained quite a bit of personal stuff about how music is helping me to deal with my father's cancer. He's just been told he has 4 months to live.
Thanks again George.

George,
You can't really be miffed with others, despite the surrounding circumstances. No doubt, with the advice given above you will be able to avoid a similar isue arising again. I've no doubt many of us have been there and done that - I know I have, and was really miffed with myself for having been so careless - ie creating a document without the ability to save it from time to time.
None the less, I am sorry to hear about your father and I have also read your other post in the HiFi Forum about events in your life this year and your hifi upgrades. Music certainly can help most of us so i'm sure your superb system will will bring you hours of great joy and relaxation over the comming years. Wishing you a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year
Cheers
Don
Thanks for your kind words of support Don - much appreciated. Less 'miffed' by anyone in particular, but was frustrated if this was a limitation of 'Hoopla' forum system. Anyway, lesson learnt, and time to move on.
Have written the 'lost' post again from memory and reposted this morning. Wrote it in 'Pages' on my iPad, so lesson learnt!
Tme to go open the presents and see what CDs Santa has brought this year (hopefully the new Led Zep is in there).
George,
Just another passing re-call - have you ever tried booking a flight/hotel/etc on-line only to discover that part way thru the blooming thing "times out".............and you have to start over again ?
I mention this just in case you (or others) start booking your summer holidays in the next few days.................
Cheers
Don
OOoooppppsss
this post crossed with yours above - hope you get Led Zepplin !!
Absolutely Don!
Similar to booking tickets in Ticketmaster.... buying tickets under time pressure doesn't make for the most pleasurable of experiences!
Hope your day is going well so far today. Turkey in the oven here, and about to open pressies!

The others are just stirring (it was a very late night last night !) and although i've been out and about for four hours, i'm at risk of being labelled "anti-social" in the household unless I turn this computer off and start opening presents. Then "they" will start playing with their new i-phomes, i-pads etc etc and i'll be labelled "anti-social" for telling them to switch off..............
Cheers

Just experienced the same thing. A draft is a draft , not a post. Hoopla need to understand the meaning of words. If they can't it's not surprising they seem unable to develop a forum with any practical functionality.
The draft function needs to be sorted to be of any practical use. Drafts are meant to be used for development at a later date. 60 minutes is neither use nor ornament!
p.s. I don't expect I'll get any extra activity points for this post either.
