Unitiserve/dlna

Posted by: musica on 25 December 2012

Hi

I currently have a Unitiserve/NDX/Nait XS in one room. However I would like to make the music on the US available in another room using a less expensive set up. My question is would the music on the US be available using any DLNA compatable Sreamer on the network which accepted WAV format. Thanks

Yes it should work fine. You just want some form os UPNP client such as XBMC running on an appleTV 2 or mac mini, or similar PC

Yes use the upnp server in the unityserve, you can even stream to an Iphone or android and get a dock, a nice solution when you just want a cheap system for other rooms than the main hifi room.

Interesting:  How do you do this?  I've tried on my iphone which shows my computer and HDX but when I access a music file on the HDX, it says "no device found" (?)

Do you have Plugplayer installed on the Iphone? If not just search for plugplayer in appstore, it should be the first result you get, and it is free. Install plugplayer open the devices tab, and hopefully you can find your hdx as a device. If you can click on it and see the settings it should work. Try the browse tab and select all music, and you should see your music much like you can see on the n-serve or n-stream. When you select a track your Iphone should start to play it, and add the rest of the tracks on the album to the playlist.

Plugplayer most likely will be able to find the hdx upnp server, otherwise you may have to add it manually, but this should not be necessary.

Well, looks like my problem is (once again) flaky network performance.  Don't know if its wireless (unlikely, as I have a very strong signal), hardware (stack saturation/overflows?) or software (Netgear Genie).  Sometimes the Netgear Genie player works fine as a local (iPhone) player and others it says "no device present" (which I take it to mean "no music server present").

All this convenience comes with a price!
