Posted by: Thorsten_L on 25 December 2012

Hi@all!

Did anyone check out the Sound-Quality of these LPs???

http://www.black-sabbath.com/2...-set-to-be-released/

I have the first 4 on original German Big SWIRL-Vertigo 1st pressings...near_mintish...

Will the new ones come near them in terms of SQ???

Tempted to buy the new set...

These smash the Rhino's big time.Could only compare SBS to a early 80's NEMS remaster is better,Never say Die i would say as good as my first press and the new Live at Last is better.

I did say on SH forum i thought they were only just better than the Rhino's but having done back to back listening i would say these are the best Sabbath remasters by far.

Thorsten

You will not be disappointed by the SQ of the box set

I have been playing this box set a lot over the last few days. I don't have any other pressings to compare to but all I can say is that I think it sounds great and have been thoroughly enjoying this superb music.

Is that really you Lontano?

Not seen you on here for a veritable age! You been on holiday or something? Prison?

And listening to the Slack Bladders too. Whatever next. Extraordinary.

OK who has the real Lontano?

What is the ransom?

Hello chaps, yes me. Done my time now MrClick and thought I would test the water with a post or two. This Black Sabbath box is just fab. Grab one whilst you can....

Hi Guys, I don't have a turntable at the moment and don't have any plans to purchase one. Have any of you tried downloading the Digital versions? In what format does it come and have you tried listening to the quality?

Thanks,

Renz

Hi Renz

Downloads are only 320kps MP3's. Haven't downloaded them yet may do that today.

As they mastered them at 24/96 hopefully hirez will be available at some point.

There's  no plans for CD versions.

Thanks for the quick reply Steve. I guess I'll hang on and see (hope) if they come up  with a hires at some stage then. Even though the book of the concert programs would be nice to have.

Renz

Been so busy listening to the albums i've forgotten about the book

Steve, how do you find the pressing quality of the vinyl? Sounds great to me when the music is loud but in quiet bits and between tracks I have heard better.

Posted on: 01 January 2013 by Steve C

Same as you i think this is down to the fact they used lacquers rather then the metal masters.

S/T suffers more than the rest on my set.

These do like volume thou even with the Nait XS volume at one o'clock i just want to go higher

Thanks Steve. My pressing of Paranoid probably need replacing - too many pops. All the rest is fine though. Yes, this needs to be played loud, which I will do later today again. I think these are going to be on the turntable for quite a while to come.....

Just downloaded the MP3's going to give them a listen later.

Just a shame there not 24/96

This weekend I traded some German SWIRLs (and some other records) in (and some EUROS) for original UK 1st pressings of S/T (NM-), Paranoid (Mint-) and Vol. 4 (NM-).

The difference in sound is UNBELIEVABLE....the Paranoid blows everything away I have heard before...it is a true 1st press with "apparently" only 3 songs on side B. On later pressings the songs are separated....incredible.

The biggest difference in sound is with Vol. 4...the UK 1st pressing sounds absolutely fabulous...like you are IN THE STUDIO...

I now have a MINT- German original SWIRL left and I could sell it...

Also I ordered a UK 1st of Master of reality. If it beats my German SWIRL, I will sell MOR too (MINT-)...

Pleased to hear your listening to vinyl again Thorsten. The original Swirl copies will always win hands down against reissues for many reasons. Well done with your recent trades.

Yeah...I was stunned...I just checked the value of a Mint- "Paranoid"....oooops...

The UK 1st pressings are in a wonderful condition.

I love to listen to vinyl, but sometimes comfy takes over analogue...and wow...the ND5XS+XP5XS+HiLine is not far away from my vinyl-stuff...

Thorsten glad you managed to get some good first presses. My local S/H dealer had a first press Paranoid in 2 week's ago that sold for £75 on ebay, He's also got a copy of Vol4 that he want's £35 having looked at the condition of both of these i'd have passed them up in the bargin bins a couple of years ago.

Wow...I just finished listening to Vol.4....It has the words "Porky" & "Pecko" hand-etched in the groove, so it really is a true 1st pressing...

The sound is so good...in fact, the German 1st SWIRL sounded not even slightly as good as this...what went wrong???

All pressings (except the newer RHINO by Kevin Gray) sound "muffled" and dark compared to this "revelation"...

simple answer :

if it has been digitally remastered, then don't buy it

if from analog tapes, then .... he he ..

Thorsten,

I appreciate the new reissues won't be as good as the 1st presses but is the SQ of the box set reissues 'acceptable'? I only have the original S/T album and would be interested if it's good, or maybe I could look for some German issues.

Steve

If you haven't any first press sabbath then i would highly recommend this box set as a one stop Ozzy era set.

SQ is very good

You could have my original Mint- German SWIRLs I have left...(S/T and MoR)...
