Keep losing unitiserve - any advice?

Posted by: robbo on 29 December 2012

An appeal for help for anybody who may be able to!

I have a unitiserve and NDS, controlling via n-stream & n-serve.  Quite regularly I come to turn on the ipad after a period of system non use (ie first thing in the morning) but the app doesn't find any server.  Same thing with NDS direct with remote - "no server" appearing on the NDS screen.

To resolve I am powering down the unitiserve, then rebooting.

Any ideas why the unitserve could keep dropping out of the network?

Thanks for any advice.

The ip address for the router  interface depneds on the model of the router, also you need to know the login information. Often this can be found in the router manual, unless your ISP changes this as part of a custome router setup, this can be answered by the support  people from your isp, but this information should also be on there website.

You could also try contacting Naim support, they can login to a computer on your network and see if they can find other issues than reserving the ip addresses, but it would be a good idea  if you have the login information for the router at hand before they start remote support.

Robbo, just tried to catch up on the thread.. Can you say what is not workingcow that you have put the switch in?

As far as logging in to your router, well it's address could be anything.. So I can give you an instruction but if it's double Dutch perhaps get a home computer friend to do it.

On a windows PC go the run a program by typing it's name in a DOS or Command window called 'ipconfig'. Look at the output. You will see a line with the word default-gateway followed by an address; x.x.x.x.  This is your router.

Open a web browser up and enter http://x.x.x.x  or on some browsers just x.x.x.x. You should then get  the router login screen asking for username and password in the browser. You should have been given this or it is as the manual says. If all else fails try username admin password admin and see if you get in. It worked for me for somebodies Talk Talk router a couple of days ago.

My wife has now given up trying to use the streamer in my absence (her initial enthusiasm for the setup is waning... I see my plans of new amp and speakers fading, I'm starting to get desperate!)

So, willing to try anything, do I have anything to lose by reserving the IP address of the NDS & US?

And if so... (apologies) just how do I do that - ie how do i get into the router to reserve the IP addresses (I did warn you I'm a technophobe!)

Hi robbo, based on the above post from you I would suggest that you take up the advice from Claus and Simon or get your dealer to set it all up for you now that you have your network switch in place. I could chip in with some suggestions on the technical level but you need someone who knows what they are looking at either there with you or remotely logged in to your network. You could be tearing your hair out going round in circles and it would be a shame if your wife really does give up on using it when you are not around.
