What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Even on my modest set up here in NYC, this sounds really awesome in both surround and stereo.

I give it 3.5 stars out of 5 -  it's a can't-miss for anyone who needs yet another reminder as to why Jimi Hendrix is one of the all-time guitar greats.

Got tickets for Fleetwood Mac in April up in NYC and could catch him either up here or down in Florida (if that is on his list), let me see.

On vinyl. Great record.

I just love his original cadenza!

Got lucky. This is an original mint 6 eye mono. The Jubilee Edition CD reissue is pretty good but the vinyl still gives more colours to individual instruments.

That era vinyl usually does. My opinion of course.

matt,

I agree for the most part but the Columbia Classical music vinyls are hit and miss compared to their jazz and vocal releases where they are consistently above average.

I don't know why but usually Columbia classical pressing has a dry constipated sound.

I only bought this box set a couple of weeks ago

Now playing Within the Realm of a Dying Sun.

A very atmospheric, dark and haunting album with incredible singing and composition that proves that the 80's were not totally rubbish for music.

(The quote might not be necessary since if I remember correctly this is a well known album among the forum members.)

Listened to it during my workout this morning. Not as good as Purpendicular....but still nice as background for a workout.

Poul Berner Band ''Road to Memphis''

great Elvis tribute, and not being an Elvis fan myself, the idea of Poul Berner that somewhere deep in all of us there i as a little Elvis fan hiding, even for a Jazz freak like me,comes true.
