What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I liked his previous one. Is this one any good ?

Yes this is very good, don't think you will be disappointed especially if you liked The Queen Of Denmark. More electronica than acoustic this time round but still that great voice and very cutting lyrics

Another run, this time alone at home. We don't hear Carl Maria von Weber's chamber music too often, and even then, seldom as enthusiastically as here. Melnikov plays a fortepiano - a healthy sounding one, more an early modern piano - which is just perfect for this music. The music itself is pretty good without being too taxing, a bit like early Beethoven but with some fun harmonic finds that sets Weber apart - and Faust and Melnikov frequently add some of their own finds, in fact exhausting the possibilities of their instruments as I've not yet heard. A real feel good disc that shows us a lighter side of these two amazingly talented musicians.

Cheers,

EJ

This album is not only music...it's a destination you get to escape to. One of the most consistent collections of songs on one album in memory.

Quadrophenia The Soundtrack.  On vinyl from 1979.  Side 4 has a nice sounding mix of early 60's songs.

This is the first recording of the cello suites that I heard and consequently is still a favorite, a reference against which I compare any other.
