What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Hello Haim,
Tempted to get this disc. I really like her Brahms interpretation. I do feel that the prelude in b-minor could do with a slightly faster tempo though. See link below. I heard this performed live in Geneva by Sokolov and it is truly a wonderful piece of music.

Have you heard the disc from Angela Hewitt

Mark,
Good to hear from you. I have not listened to the Bach arrangements disc (I have her Clavier Books, the French and English suites as well as her Toccatas). How is it? Hewitt gave here a Bach concert in February but I managed to miss it. I also like a lot her playing of French composers (Rameau, Ravel and Messiaen).
As for Anna Gourari's album I think that it is extraordinary. I was not familiar with the 1922 Hindemith Suite so it took me a while to get into it. This is not a relaxing music and she plays it with unique energy and flow. On top of her Brahms I listen a lot to her Scriabin Desir.
Regards,
Haim

Hello Haim,
The transcriptions by Wilhelm Kempff are what I enjoy the most from this disc. I also have the complete box set of her J.S.Bach works which is excellent.
I do have the chance to see her now and again live at St. George's in Bristol which has excellent acoustics, which is where I saw last year Paul Lewis perform the last 3 piano sonatas of Franz Schubert. So far I have not managed to be back in the UK to go and see her.

I will probably get Anna Gourari's disc. I like pretty much all of the things that I get on ECM new series discs where they really catch the magic of the performances in some places I would like to go and see some live performances. e.g. Lockenhaus Festival. Recently I have been enjoying the Schubert performances by Valery Afanassiev and Alexei Lubimov Debussy discs.
