What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Hi Pat,

I think it was my recommendation. There are good songs on the album, but it doesn't reach the high standard of Interpol's debut release, Turn On The Bright Lights. I can't remember if you were an Interpol fan, but if you like Banks, then you would love Paul's performance with the band. The 10th anniversary edition is excellent value, with 2 CD's + DVD. The more you play the album, the more layers are revealed. It's become my favorite Interpol album now. The good news is that Paul said on interview last year that Interpol are going to record a 5th album.

Hi Denis,

Ah, at least your memory is better than mine.    Yes, I have Interpol's first three albums.  Of them, I like their debut the best as well.  It was from this discussion you had recommended checking out Paul's solo works. I will have to look for the 10th Anniversary album.

Thanks again!

Pat

One of my all-time most-played albums. While driving yesterday I heard another pianist making a ham-fisted rendition of some of these pieces, so last night I played Pires again to restore my faith in Schubert.

Hi EJ,

I very much appreciate your postings as they are sometimes bringing me to an album I have to buy afterwards. Thank you.

..started with this one on Sunday morning and realized it's not a good Sunday morning choice....

Posted on: 17 March 2013 by Bert Schurink

...then switched to this one and realized that for a certain phase of my life I was too much influenced by the classic marketing maffia......, this lady is not a bad musician...but definitely not on par with some other great players...
