What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Very special voice; very few set can handle well; Naim is OK.
Agreed - Sara Mingardo is the only mezzo to introduce a trace - just a trace - of resonance in my system.

Previously with another set I was sure that it's a recording fault of disc; now Olives deliver perfect voice here.
Really goosebump.
Recorded at DJK Studios Clacton-On-Sea

Remastered and released on red vinyl with new sleeve notes and extras, the very excellent 'Rue de Cascade' by Yann Tiersen.
Beautiful.
Why the hell not? This music is so easy to over-egg, but Davrath does a wonderful job and the orchestra is spot on.

Not sure, Chords, I think it is a combination of speaker and room. She used to rattle the room back when I had the 282/250 driving my B&Ws, and the only things that haven't changed are the B&Ws and the room.
But that's just a detail. She has a gorgeous voice, captured really well by Naive. Glad to see you enjoy this music, it's really special.
Cheers,

Symphonies 1 and 2, which are the first two out of five on disc 1. Which is the first out of 33 discs. Expect to see this image a lot for the next year or so. Or, rather, I won't bore you with it so expect to see less postings

Famous infection from Naples - outstanding performance.
Highly recommended.

Picked this up on vinyl at a charity shop yesterday for 50p. Never heard of the lady, but attracted by the produced by Gary Katz, featuring Donald Fagen and Walter Becker sticker on the front cover.
Vocal style may not be to everybody's taste, similar to Basia without the high end, but I personally like it. Some great song and excellent sound quality.
How much does this sound like Dan.
Cheers

Another winner from JJ. Not out in the US until mid April and not sure yet what the UK release date is.
Because it is a sunny afternoon, although not still quite summertime ...
... note Nicky Hopkins' harpsichord work all over the album, so great.
"Face To Face is a masterpiece of sorts. A little dated sound wise – its like the ragged brother to other classic 1966 albums like The Beatles Revolver or The Rolling Stones 14 track mid 60s tour de force, Aftermath"

1> Fire [3:50], 2> I Don't Live Today [6:45], 3> Red House [8:40], 4> Stone Free [11:01], 5> Are You Experienced? [6:40], 6> Little Wing [4:11], 7> Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) [7:11], 8> Bleeding Heart (Blues In C Sharp) [7:31], 9> Hey Joe [5:13], 10> Wild Thing [3:33], 11> Hear My Train A Comin' (Gettin' My Heart Back Together Again) [8:47].
This a fantastic live album beautifully recorded at various location. The recording of Red House on here is just 'jaw dropping' and shows JH & the band at the top of their game.

Purchased this CD in year of release 2007.
Unpretentiously folky, sweetly melancholy and calm.
I overlooked this at early listens but it’s a grower on me : )
