What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

...now listening to Sehnsucht the 1st one in the Schubert series of Matthias Goerne. I have now 4 of the 7 albums of the series - and I definitely will get the remaining 3 as well. Captivating..... Interesting enough I find the 1st one I am now hearing more direct as the numbers 6 and 7 which are more rounded / emotional....

They're all high quality discs - and you're right, what this series makes clear is how important the pianist is in these songs. It's the big issue I have with Hyperion's Schubert edition, with Graham Johnson at the piano. He is not the most interesting of pianists and single handedly ensured that this huge cast of the best singers of our times did not produce the monument it could have been.

Very good music.

Sound quality: 'flageolett' (we say simply 'glass-sound'; who plays guitar must know what it is) can be heard perfectly sometimes in the background.
