What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Herreweghe's second St. Matthew's Passion, not an improvement on his first in all counts but a pleasure after so long a time since I last heard it.

Cheers,

Original Vinyl

 Stomu Yamashta 's East Wind.

Not played this album for years. It's got all sorts of influences mainly jazz as well as blues, and a touch of classical violin. The other musicians on the album are also some of my favourites from other bands e.g. Hugh Hopper (Soft Machine), Gary Boyle (Isotope). That is probably why  I bought it back in 1973.

I've just returned from a trip to Devon to visit my parents and raided a little more from my Dad's vinyl collection for a few great jazz albums.

1966 Columbia Mono. This album was one of the first East-West fusions. A super album,

Hi VladtheImpala,

I agree, it was 2008 that I saw them live and eagerly awaited the release of this set. I like these sonatas and can also recommend the sets by (Kremer, Argerich), (Suk, Panenka) which I have a good condition copy on Vinyl, but this is on CD now from supraphon, (Dumay, Pires) which are all excellent.

Regards,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the recommendations. The Agerich and Pires sets sound interesting.

Most of the recent "What are you listening to...." contributions regarding Ms Faust have already been made earlier in this thread by fellow forumites. As a classical ignoramus, this forum has been invaluable to me, both for musicianship and SQ.

Vlad

..I understand why people would regard this as a reference, airy and nice rounded gentle performance.....still like the raw energy of Isabelle Faust more though....

..a typical American jazz album, but still good quality..

Question  -

Which do you regard as better (a relative term arguably where 'The Quo' are concerned), this or Blue For You and the Mystery Song?
