What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

You ran through them like a deer..

Not just any deer: one admiring the view while looking for a parking spot... I think this recording is worth it just for the cover, but the performances - lean and quicksilver - are really good, too.

Was introduced to this by a friend. This is a great album, anybody who likes Kate Walsh will love this. Highly recommended.

Hi Steve,

Love your Blue Horizon postings. Are you aware if any of the fantastic looking albums you have posted are available as vinyl reissues. If so have you listened / bought any and how do they stand up to the originals.

Regards G

Hi Graham,

There have been some vinyl reissues of a few Blue Horizon LPs, like Fleetwood Mac, Christine Perfect, Chicken Shack, Eddie Boyd, Duster Bennett and Otis Spann. Pure Pleasure Records have done a few and the SQ of the PP LPs I have are excellent. See link below. I also think Music On Vinyl have reissued a few. I'd go for the PP first as they are full analogue remasters. Look on their site to see what there is available and then look at other sites like Amazon and System Records and you'll probably find them a bit cheaper.

Most of the albums haven't been reissued on vinyl but there was a series of CD (spit!) remasters of the CBS years from Blue Horizon a few years ago. These include multiple LPs from the same artist in one package. These remasters aren't totally inclusive of the whole catalogue but there is a lot of good music on what's available.

In the latter stages of Blue Horizon the label went from CBS to Polydor and quite a number of the albums were of US recordings from the likes of Excello, Blue Thumb, Cobra etc and these albums can be found occasionally on the US labels second hand for a lot less than the original BH LP's. Apart from Focus 'Moving Waves' and some of the sampler albums these Blue Horizon LPs go for a lot of money, particularly the later white label Polydor issues.

If you want to discuss it further off site you are welcome to email me. When you come down I'll show you the whole collection. I have every BH LP.
