What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

If Uchida and Bishop's Mozart are pretty, Pollini's Mozart is utterly beautiful. ( or like curiously strong mints )

He brings freshness to the all familiar No.21 Andante.

i thought he would be too cool for Mozart but with Vienna Phil, Pollni conducting, the tunes retain expressiveness and vulnerability.

This is a live recording filled with the tension and energy.

kuma,

Pollini always sounds like he has taken a few vitamin pills before starting playing.

Haim,

Maybe that's better than *herbed up* before the concert.

Amasing he did not mess up a note.

I believe that 'herbed up' works best for improvisations..

Did you also get some snow last night?

John Cougar. The Kid Inside. Recorded in 1977 but not released until 1983 on the MainMan label. On very flimsy vinyl but sounds quite nice. Young and raw Mellencamp.

He reminds me of Glenn Gould.

A strong sense of improvisation. Very creative and spirited performance. There's something really pure about it in that slow movements make sense, too.

Anyways, he just got on my list of favourite piano players.

Haim,

Snow isn't a problem. We have to deal with a roof leak from all that rain we had.
