What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Strong contenders in a crowded field. This group studied with the Alban Berg Quartett and must have done something right, as the ABQ's cellist, Valentin Erben, joined them for the quintet. There are tonal and interpretative similarities between the quartets, too, although the Belcea avoid the occasional stridency and play a bit - and sometimes much - slower.

Cheers,

EJ

Agreed ... I love, I love the dove ...

I don't know why I have not played it for so long, but it has brought back some memories and I will definitely play it more frequently.

Love these Etudes Symphoniques as well as Schumann's Etudes on a Theme of the Allegretto from Beethoven seventh symphony. Ragna Schirmer's recording of these pieces is exquisite.

Great LP. I envy you having that one on vinyl, Matt.  Fortunately the HDCD sounds pretty good.

Kuma, it's very good, I've had this disc for ages (signed by Pletnev). The exclamation regarded my CD player , which just returned from servicing.
