What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

My Mistake Matt, looks like you are right, I go in and out of listening to Steve Earle and thought I'd look up what I'd missed over the last couple of years, looks like I've got another one to listen to, quite like what I've been listening too, I guess I'll always prefer the early stuff though.

Really enjoying the below at the moment, How To Destroy Angels - Welcome Oblivion, if you like NIN and Massive Attack it is well worth a listen -

Original Vinyl.

I think I first heard of Tom Rapp and his group, 'Pearls Before Swine', on a Warner Brothers sampler album in the early 1970's not sure which. He has a strange 'lisp' vocal style, but  was an excellent writer who brought new life to American folk music by adding classical layers SunForest is his last  album & it is not his best imo, but worth a listen.

The compositions on this recording contain dances [of varying formality] which Brade intended for all kinds of musical instruments but particularly on viols (...from quoted prints of 1614 and 1617).

Does what it says on the tin really,

and Hesperion XX on top form as usual : )
