What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.
Anyway, links:

Hi Kevin -
I like Can, and have most of their albums, but none of Holger's solo efforts. How does his stuff compare? Is it derivative? Which would be a good album to start with? Thanks!
Hook
PS - Just got the "Lost Tapes" vinyl box set, and was planning on listening to it this weekend. That is, after a rebuild this afternoon -- two more Fraim shelves (with tall risers) being delivered today.
Original 1970s Vinyl. A "little bit battered" but sounds absolutely marvellous.
Graham.
Here's another guy that doesn't seem to get much love on the forum - but all my musician friends who have seen him say he really puts on an great show, & I think this is an excellent album:
(Wish I could afford one of his Olson guitars, but I don't happen to have an extra $15-20K laying around at the moment...)
Hi Mark,
A fine album, for sure. I have been to two shows (about a decade+ apart) and agree he puts on a great show. Definitely worth a go.

New music day. These seemed appropriate with the quiet, foggy morning.
Tift Merritt - Traveling Alone
Ruth Moody (of The Wailin' Jennys) - The Garden
Chords, thanks for continually offering such great and interesting musical escapades for me anyway! You sure keep me busy...

Original Starline Black
Claude Debussy: Alexei Lyubimov
Préludes, Book 1
Préludes, Book 2
D'un cahier d'esquisses
L'Isle joyeuse
Hommage à Haydn
Berceuse héroïque
It's nice to listen to a recording from an artist doing the same repertoire with about 40 years of life separating the two. This is the first Debussy set from Lubimov recorded in 1971 from Melodiya. Notice how today the record people seem to have dropped the y from the Anglicized spelling of his surname.

Hi Hook
Holger's solo music is quite Cann-y (and most of the early ones feature at least one other member of Can). I'd say that it is much more playful, and less dark, than Can- think "Moonshake", "Animal Waves" or "Don't Say No" as opposed to "You Doo Right", "Halleluwah" or "Vitamin C".
On the first album "Movies" (1979) especially, he experimented with sampling (done with tape though!) and world music. It was a big influence on Byrne & Eno for "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts". I'd say that's the best place to start.
I'd buy the albums in this order:
- Movies
- On the Way to the Peak of Normal
- Der Osten ist Rot
- Rome Remains Rome
- Canaxis
- Moving Pictures
- Radio Wave Surfer
And we haven't even got into Irmin's solo output yet...
PS - I'd be interested to hear how good "The Lost Tapes" is on vinyl - I'd buy it if it's a step up from the CD version...
More new (to me) music. Beth Orton - Sugaring Season
BBC Radio London, 94.9 FM.
Sunderland v West Ham. We (WHU) are currently losing to a Black Cats wonder goal

Listening to this on vinyl at the moment, well a few times actually, as I play around with different Dynavector cartridges on the RP8, fiddly work but so far no broken needles
