What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

You can easily tell that Roland Hanna had the training of classical music. Playing as well as sound are superb.

Seems like the perfect time to play this.

A CD lend from a colleague-friend -

not many of my colleagues have such good taste : )

The legendary record of Huelgas Ensemble from 2003.

There are 32 variations on Renaissance ostinato theme 'La Spagna'.

Usual choir - only one track; others with outstanding wind instruments; very similar to the cover's picture.

Variations are in contrapunti system but not that boring/artificial/cold way what Bach spread after 200 years.

SACD print -; Naims love the ordinary  CD layer a lot.

Highly recommended.

Spin again and again...

Full of spirit; strange harmonies; nice and almost light entrance to Machaut's music.

Artwork is outstanding too.

"....And know that the salamander lives amidst the flames of the fire without pain and with no damage ti its body; due to its nature; itcan even extinguish the fire."
