What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Bryter Layter boxed set, which arrived through the door this morning.

Taking a little while to get used to the remastered version compared to my version on CD, but there is is a hell of a lot more clarity especially in the vocal and much greater separation between the instruments.  The detail is a little unnerving compared to the frankly muddy CD version.

John Wood, the original engineer, comments in his sleeve notes:

"It is inevitable that when dealing with tapes that are now over 40 years old there will be some degradation in quality, consequently we have not always been able to use the original first generation tapes.  Unfortunately the original Masters to Bryter Layter have been lost so I used  my personal copy made at the time of the original mixes".

Definitely worth the investment, sounds pretty damned good.

Regards

Nic
