What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Thanks Kevin!

I don't have the CD version, but I'll post some comments on what I think of the vinyl quality later this weekend.

Howard,

You just prompted me to listen to this album for the first time in many years. Apart from All Along the Watchtower I find it the most soporific album to listen to and I now realise why my 1st press LP from 1989 still looks new.

Hope you're both well.

Steve

No problem Graham. Did you see the other Eddie Boyd LP recommendation earlier today. You might also check out Otis Spann 'The Biggest Thing Since Colossus', another exceptional LP also reissued by Pure Pleasure.

If memory serves this actually sounded quite good in the can so to speak but Dylan brought it home and listened to it on a "boombox" and insisted that it be mastered to sound good on it.

Quite like the sound of Tempest so he seems to have got  over this aversion.

Haven't played this for ages. I forgot what a great singer/songwriter Neil Diamond is -

Haven't heard this CD since the 1990s so I thought I'd give it a spin.

Bluddy hell it sounds awesome - a truly "immersive two-channel CD.

+1

We love this record at home. I must endeavour to get a vinyl copy of my own, we normally play Tristan's CD version (no. 2 son!).

Forgot there is a nice John Martyn guesting vocal  on this album

Re Donald Fagen's 'Sunken Condos'. I wanted to add some text, but there didn't seem to be room with such a large image. I am surprisingly hooked on this album! It has to be Donald's best solo effort since 'Nightfly', which I notice is currently just £3 on Amazon (I suppose if you don't pay any tax you can afford to give away some bargains). I think it's also better than 'Two against Nature' and 'Everything Must Go', sounding more like mid-period Steely Dan. A thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. Highly recommended.
