What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

A nice bit of Appalachian folk music.

LP (p) 1966 : )

Listening to the same LP as listened to when quite young.

My parents are having a de-clutter of the homestead, and have giving me a bundle of LP's most of which i recognise from the years before I fled the nest.

After a good clean up these original old LP’s actually play very well [to my surprise!]

This Doctor Zhivago sounds wonderful,

better than I remember it,

goes very well with a British month of May with central heating on : )

The legendary Kossoy Sisters who sang I'll Fly Away on "Oh Brother Where Art Thou."

They have only officially released 3 albums in over 40 years. Classic harmony vocals.

I have heard the Eastern Girls single which is ok. Is the Album more of the same ? . Some reviews suggest they are influenced by The Bunnymen , Joy Division which is not really a  bad thing in my mind .

TW,

The sound is more Bunnymen than JD. I have a couple of america-only releases and there are  traces of The Mission(remember them?). I used to know  the bass player, Liam,  and that's how I got to listen to  their music. They are pretty good Iive too and are good boys and I  cannot diss them too much

Tony

Tony ,  Yes i remember the Mission well from my youth, I saw them live in Birmingham powerhouse ( i think ) with All about Eve supporting when Goths were Goths !

I will get a copy of Chapel club. thanks

Hi Graham,

I have been in Spain for 9 days. Unfortunately my mother fell ill during that time which has taken up a lot of my time. I'm still around. My new 500 hasn't had much use though.

As mentioned elswhere on the forum,  i didnt think much of this album  until i played it on my then new Naim kit which opened the sound completly
