What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Thank you. I've loved this guy's work for years but didn't have this one. Prompted by this post to search out a copy on vinyl and just got a success on ebay. Fingers crossed the SQ lives up to the ebay posting claims.

It's a stunner in every respect.

Arrived today. In near mint condition. As you say, a stunner. Only the third album played on my newly installed 202/napsc/200 so big grins in evidence.

Glad you are enjoying it

I have Colin at What You See & Hear to thank for introducing me to this LP, he payed it on my LP12 after fitting a Radikal & Dyno XX2MKII.

have you ever done a spectral analysis of the tracks on this CD?

i'm not very well educated to interpret these, but the do look very different to spectrums from other discs.

i wonder if some loudness has been added and an overall limit has been applied.

the dynamic range of 10 is not very bad, but not particularly good either.

I saw on CoolEdit; nothing special. Nice dinamics and ultra-fast spikes on bass beats.

Dinamics is not better than our beloved other discs; the topic is about some kind of 'reality-feeling'.

And pleasse note when you add extra loudness - your female voice and pure instrument-voices will be coloured immediately what we can't stand at all.

Just added this one to my NAS, ripped the CD, but I still have my original vinyl copy that is now 30 years old!!  Michael's best album, he left us too soon.

My first listenings to both : )

From my musically untrained perspective, this LvB of Hélène Couvert sounds strangely unfamiliar to me, interesting but hard work with moody damped and complicated passages.

Angela Hewitt sounds deeply engaging from the start, far easier to follow the tunes, and altogether more enjoyable.
