What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Matthew E. White - Big Inner. Liking it a lot, if very derivative (respectful though)

First CD that I bought back in 1987 iirc (together with Bruce Springsteen live and some Plaestrina / Tallis Scholars - eclectic or what?)

A record that received rave reviews in the UK, and is almost universally neglected or even panned anywhere else, is this any good? I've listened to this for about a year now, and I think it is very good - although Osborne doesn't sound russian. Pianists like Alexeev and Richter find colours at every turn, and compared to them, Osborne sounds terribly efficient and with a limited tonal palette. But in his own way, he is very convincing - and crucially, knows when to let go of the brakes.

Cheers,

EJ

Saw it in HMV today. Haven't listened to axis: bold as love in over 20 years since I switched away from vinyl. Hendrix as wonderful as ever but I think I can now properly appreciate the talents of Redding and Mitchell. And Little Wing is absolutely enchanting, if only 2:24 long.
