What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Last album for the evening.  Haven't listened to this in a while.  Good album, still need to pick up her most recent effort.

Leinsdorf/BSO's Beethoven's Leonore No.3.

Back half of building towards the finale is one of the most exciting finish I have heard. Starting off with  ascending strings then a brief soft passages which slows down with a flowing melody. Then a distant drum call and picollo then again the spiralling strings. From that point on, the  avalanch of music and thunderous orchestra enter. There's no stopping like a train speeding at a high speed flying off to the enternity!

Anything after follows this set will sound pale in comparison.

Little bit of space rock before work

Posted on: 14 January 2013 by Sloop John B

For whatever reason I had stopped listening to music before heading off to work, had moved over to radio and stopped that as one can only take so much of the same old same old.

I was listening to Kind of Blue over a few days and put it on the other morning before work and this reminded me that my old habit had a certain therapeutic effect on me as i started the day.

This morning this started the day beautifully.

One of the best  Early Music record nowadays.

Track No.4. the famous Merula's lament.

Last track the popular 'Stu Criato'

Nuria Rial - simply excellent; Jaroussky has enormous miracle in his voice; orchestra is outstanding. There is something to make me volume up...after 2 minutes vol pot on the 11 o'clock position...very rare on 82...strange noise - glasses shaking in the room...this recod has unbelievably good sound.

Really highly recommended.

The soothing power & precision  of Thumpermonkey...

The band exceeded my expectations last thursday night @ the Buffalo Bar, London. A truely  exhilarating experience which made me think I was watching a modern day King Crimson. I'll see them again @ The Square, Harlow, when they are supporting Knifeworld on 2 Feb. Knifeworld will have to be an exceptional band to follow the Thumper boys.

Every time I play this music I am reminded of my good old friends Stefan, Huw and Adrian, the three ECMusketeers, who chose to leave us behind. I miss you guys!

bishopla,

That's quite a nice system you have in your profile.  It makes me wonder if you have the remastered Rubber Soul on CD and how it compares to the new vinyl?
