What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Another "lost classic" This is a great late 60s 'psychedelic' album.

Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov is a great work. It was substantially reworked by Rimsky Korsakov, who not only added music but changed significant parts of the story and essentially changed the focus from a historical drama about Russia, to a historical drama about the titular czar. Rimsky's version is no longer very popular but fact is, the work's greatest performance on records happens to be this version. It has Christoff in all three bass roles, which is a bit of an oddity but there's no arguing with his Boris.

Cheers,

EJ
