What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Camel - Rajaz

Once past the oddly tuned 'Birds of Fire' first track, this album is utterly fab.

Just when i'm really getting into this it ends at ...40'28 total running time.

Available on new CD from Amazon: £1.97 + free UK delivery option.

Very good SQ, bit of a bargain really  : )

Lenny conducting in 1972. This time with London Symphony. Much more human than Boulez or Ozawa sets. He's a better story teller and excitement galore from the top. The tempo dropped quite a bit from his earlier set, but just as exciting and less of Twilight Zone effect. Much larger in soundstage so the the orchestra/music is spread apart yet maintaining the focused intense energy.  As Stravinsky's version there are many layering of instruments but particularly on this set some sounds like cry of human. It's sort of eerie. A large dynamic contrasts keeping the musicians as well as listeners on their toes. An intimate feel of earlier set is missing but he hasn't lost that *wow* moments. Fireworks finale with a bigger bang.
1990 Esa-Pekka Salonen/Philharmonia.

So far I am liking this earlier recording. Dances of Young Girls sound a bit Sibelious' Pohjola's Daughter.
