What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

A Rach moning

Have attended a wonderful live concert by her last Saturday.

This is one artist who combines great virtuosity with a huge sense of musicality.

I will see her again if I can.

Joining Chords with another early Pandolfo disc. My own copy has a slightly different cover and includes a "limited edition" second disc with the Couplets de Folies.

Cheers,

Well,

arriving to Pandolfo's best:

Music looks like  exactly as the artwork: non-usual; colourful; a bit humorous; very-high-level and free, enormously free.

Pure Early Music, amongs the best ones.

And great hifi-reference-disc too.

Battle of the grieving ladies... after listening to both discs today, I have to say that, with all due respect to the considerable talents of Mrs. Kozena, she is out sung by Von Otter by quite a margin.

Cheers,

EJ,

yes, both ladies have excellent voice.

But a real miracle appears for me rather here:

Another class I think.

And please sorry I am not fan of Musica Antiqua Köln; Goebel's ochestra and Early Music - not good together.

Traffic.......

i remember buying this back in 1968 as if it was just yesterday...and I still love it!

...and Steve still has the mud of the country on his boots,

Hi Chords,

Regarding Goebel and Musica Antiqua Köln, I think he did quite a good job on both discs. After his health troubles around 1990 or so he was no longer as energetic as he used to be but still a force to be reckoned with.

That said I fully agree with your advocacy of Sara Mingardo, one of the supreme altos of our age. And supported by Alessandrini no less!

Cheers,

EJ

On White Vinyl

Good LP but I found the white vinyl a bit off putting.

Attractive lady but her hands look older than she???

1971 - First pressing. Although not a great fan of the band, this is one of their best efforts, best line up IMHO  and that bloke  doing what he does best- play the drums-  and quite good he is!
