What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Aleg, I'm so glad you pointed this out.  I'm getting old and completely forgot I had this too.  I think about 6 months ago I had been lucky enough to follow your recommendation of Perianes (who was new to me then) and after getting one disc I had no choice but to get most of his other recordings too.  A wonderful pianist!  Yes, I agree with you.  Extremely highly rated in my books too.

As for Volodos vs. Perianes, I'm sure there are differences in interpretation.  I'll compare later.  I'm OK with having as many views as I can.   Volodos certainly isn't perfect either.  I just get excited about music, as if anyone could tell, and usually it has less to do about who is playing.  It just happened to be a new disc for me this morning.  I do find both Perianes and Volodos interesting in their own way.  Both are passionate about what they are doing and that's what counts for me too.

Regards,

Doug

For Mompou, check out the series of discs by pianist Jordi Maso on the Naxos label. A surprisingly good find. A Catalan pianist who clearly understands the music of the Catalan composer.

Mopping around with Jenny Lin since this is the only Mompou around here.

thank you for the reference, I'm listening to him right now (I still had a 30% off offer on Naxos), very good indeed.

Cheers

OMG   I just bought the LP off ebay 2 weeks ago

Chestnut Mare is one of my favorite "Byrds" songs, though I hardly consider this assemblage anything close to the original band.

But Clarence White was an amazing guitar player - worth it for him!

Who is in the line-up for this LP?  Anyone know?

Posted on: 08 June 2013 by FangfossFlyer

Clarence White, Gene Parsons, Skip Battin and of course Roger McGuinn.

one of the best line ups following the early Byrds with David Crosby and Gene Clark and of course Jim McGuinn!

I generally like to hear alternative takes, if this is what they are, and the vinyl quality is fine, although looking at the credentials above it looks to be a digital remaster albeit done very well.

My favourite track is Chestnut mare : )

My Music On Vinyl copy is a 2010 release.

IMO this is an excellent 3xLP set, available from amazon uk for £23 [It was over £40 not so long ago]

Hey Skip, I've got the 10" double LP of Look Sharp from 1979. Cold sounding for vinyl, much like the CD.
