What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

The Fantasie is a perfect fit for Lewis' muscular, outgoing Schubert.

Glenn Gould's final recorded performance of the Bach Goldberg variations arranged for string trio. Once the novelty wears off, this appears to be a well played, well considered performance that fails to take wing most of the time (there are exceptions: variations 20 and 21 are beautifully done and almost worth the price of admission alone). Even Maisky is unusually well behaved here, which is a pity.

Lara Marling's new album is amazing. Be prepared to be glued to your seat because for the first 20 minutes you won't be able to leave.
