What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Been playing this for six months straight in a row - a good candidate for disc of the year!

Yes, I love it. Best thing Fray's done so far.

First play of The Tangent - Le Sacre Du Travail (The Rite Of Work)

Read all about it - http://www.thetangent.org/

Posted on: 21 June 2013 by Florestan

Janine Jansen (Violin), Boris Brovtsyn (Violin), Maxim Rysanov (Viola), Amihai Grosz (Viola), Torleif Thedéen (Cello), Jens-Peter Maintz (Cello),

Verklärte Nacht for String Sextet, Op. 4 by Arnold Schoenberg

Quintet for Strings in C major, Op. 163/D 956 by Franz Schubert

Posted on: 21 June 2013 by Florestan

Ludwig van Beethoven:  Hélène Couvert (Piano)

Sonata for Piano no 1 in F minor, Op. 2 no 1

Sonata for Piano no 13 in E flat major, Op. 27 no 1 "Quasi una fantasia"

Sonata for Piano no 28 in A major, Op. 101

The beauty (or detriment) of this forum is that temptation exist everywhere and although curiosity mostly kills cats it turns out that sometimes curiosity can be quite good for the cat.  I survived and even enjoyed the risk and the journey here and I have our naim_nymph to thank for arousing my curiosity.

Hélène Couvert is a pianist that I just didn't know about and will definitely be digging deeper into other recordings.  I can't quit put my finger on it but I found that my enjoyment grew progressively going from the earliest sonata to the latest.   Was it that the A major had the most sparkle and attitude?

The caveat here is that I will never find myself with too much Beethoven.

Franz Joseph Haydn:  Marc-André Hamelin (Piano), Bernard Labadie, Les Violons du Roy

Concerto for Keyboard in G major, H 18 no 4

Concerto for Keyboard in F major, H 18 no 3

Concerto for Keyboard in D major, H 18 no 11

Lots of sunshine to go around.  Oh where oh where did those minor key concertos go?  Ach, that's right, I don't think Haydn got around to writing any or more likely.....he simply didn't like minor keys and discriminated against them.

This is still one of my favourite Le Sacre so far. Primitively intense.

Spining in the main rig for the first time.
