What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Genesis "Selling England By The Pound"

On vinyl. Still not the best recording job of all time, but an ENORMOUS leap forward from the CD...

This disc will most likely end up in HM's vaults as a curiosity, and that would be a big shame as the music and the performances are fantastic.

Vinyl reissue on Barking Pumpkin Record. I have never owned an original copy of this album. But use to listen to it at my best friends house back in the day. So have no recollection how it used to sound. However this reissues sounds pretty good to me.

Just finished the second play of this CD and it already has the a best of 2013 release about it.

Predominately Prog, but also brings in elements of Swing, Jazz, Classical and a sense of Theatrics to lead you through the story of a working day that ends by slumping in front of the TV. A wonderful concept that drawers you into the story, to which I commend the songwriting skills of the Tangent band leader, Andy Tillison. I  hope this gets performed 'live', say at the RFH, where it could be one of the great gigs. The Tangent back catalogue beckons.

I bought this from the Tangent web site above to give more money to the band. On this performance they deserve it.

Saw her live from the photographers pit at T in the Park just after she went stellar.  She was quite a force of nature.  G

After seeing Laura on Thursday night, I'm appreciating her singing & guitar playing even more. The album's simple arrangements appeal to me much in the same way as Ryan Adams - '29', also produced by Ethan Johns.

A short Europe / UK tour this autumn if you fancy it (York Hall, Bethnal Green for me)...

Rubbish weather (dry but cold) so listening to my Alan Parsons cd's. I am expecting I Robot to  still be my favourite though Eve and Stereomy are close runners up!
