What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

It's always subjective, Vlad  Your opinion is as good as anyone elses

I have a couple of the Lang Lang discs (mainly Liszt and Chopin) - frankly, I didn't "believe" in his performance. More a question of playing the notes (supremely well, it must be said) but not playing the music,

Vlad, EXACTLY my friend, EXACTLY. Regards, W.W.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Actually, I should ask you to disregard my comments on Lang Lang. On reflection, it is probably legitimate to say he is not to my taste but not to call into question his integrity or ability. After all those years of practice and performance, and having more musical talent in his little finger than I do entire, it is not right for some tyro like me to belittle his efforts on a forum. Or to encourage others to do the same.

Your a little more humbly,

Vlad

It's at the end of the day very much a taste thing. I am one of the guys who like a certain section of the music of Lang Lang very much - knowing also the cultural context of where the guy is coming from (I lived a couple of years in Asia)....

At the same time I also like the more accepted players in this forum......and can even understand why others are preferred, as I will also do.  But every now and then a disc from Lang Lang gives me a great deal of enjoyment.

Lastly, he has a great impact on attracting young people to classical music which I think is also an important benefit.

Really good to have these on cd. I have the vinyl but can now rip to my ipod and play in the car! In particular 'The sceanery has slowly changed' for the beautiful guitar by a certain Mr Clapton.
