What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Illuminating, fascinating, and as ever with Bach, just a peep into his world of music. A life would be too short to really come close to a complete grasp of his mysterious genius. Indeed I wonder how the word genius can be applied to any but two or three others who wrote music in the face of this kind of artistry.

ATB from George

Hi George,

As usual, a very articulate response that no one could have said better.  We are all so lucky to be recipients of these gifts of music by these great composers.

Regards,

Doug

Thanks, Doug.

First I will try to enjoy the fourth of July without playing any 1812 Overtures. It is enough that I am reading now "War & Peace".

Haim,

Have you watched the Russian production of War and Peace?

This is one of the best Epic film ever made with cast of thousands.

No CGI back then.

I read the book first ( with the *relationship chart ) then watched this film and thought this is more accurate rendition in my mind than the vapid Hollywood version with Hepburn and Fonda.

I highly recommend watch this film ( 7 hours! ) after you read the book.

The book 'War and Peace' is beautifully written, almost poetry.  I really enjoyed reading it.
