What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

All I can say is wow

Graham.

So you reckon you got a good return there Graham? What were the biggest differences? And what support did you have before?

Hi Kevin.

I have had half the system on Fraim for 12m CDS2,NAC282, Stageline, Lingo, Flatcap2. The rest NAP250.2 Hicap2,XPS on a 4 tier Optimum 10mm all glass shelfs with steel supports. The immediate  difference is a smoother mid range, less sidlence in the voices, better sepaeration and imaging. I have been off work today and have been playing music since 12.00 with no sign of fatigue. I think this is also down to the Fraim. All in all very pleased. Also thanks for asking I'm well just trying to keep warm, but the music is giving me a warm glow  Looks like snow tomorrow you might get some good pic's to post. Take care.

Regards Graham

Soen - Cognitive

This is pretty interesting progressive metal. Clean singing (and pretty good one too). This band features Martin Lopez (known from Opeth) and Steve DiGeorgio (one of the best base guitar player, involved in bands like Testament and Death). Katatonia and Opeth had sex with Tool and end result could be Soen

BigH47,

Is the Tommy CD a single disc?  I've always been annoyed that my vinyl copy puts sides 1 and 3 on one LP, 2 and 4 on the other.  Needless switching of the albums back and forth to hear it in sequence.

Live gig tomorrow. Stupid clock keeps ticking and I should get some sleep to survive the gig...this guy surely knows how to put his words.

This approach was actually to limit needless switching. In the days of stacking records on a long-spindle record player, this configuration allowed one to play sides one and two sequentially, then flip both discs to play sides three and four sequentially.

Thanks Fraser.  Makes sense in that regard.  I have several other double LPs with this configuration, but Tommy is the only one where order is really important.  Cheers.

Yes Tommy CD is a single, but at least they put the tracks on in the right order.

I can't remember which CD actually went, 1,3,2,4 as per the vinyl sides.

On vinyl from 1976.  Does it rock?  You betcha.  Also some bluesy and trippy songs.  Nice mix.

On vinyl, from 1984.  I usually listen to my music at a moderate volume, but his LP sounds better LOUD .  It's got some bottom-end vibes.

Joining Joe, there is good use of the Taurus pedals as he notes. Not sure what issue of vinyl this is , on Vertigo VERH 12, with blank white labe on side 2. Seems to be a A1/B1 cut.

This is the 1st time I've actually sat down and listened to any Billie Holiday, what an amazing voice, I will definitely be adding more to my vinyl collection.
