What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Johann Sebastian Bach:  Rosalyn Tureck

Goldberg Variations BWV 988

Back to the basics.  This is how I always feel about Tureck's playing of Bach.  While I can enjoy a high octane version now and then, I equally enjoy a slower, more thoughtful reading tending to melancholy anyway and maybe more so.  Stripped and bare bones one can assess and contemplate the counterpoint, the harmony, and the beauty of this music.

Why is everyone in such a hurry anyway?  Stop and smell the roses...

Original vinyl on 'OKeh' records. 60's soul with nods to both Stax and Motown. Larry and Johnny come at you like Sam and Dave.

Tony2011 this one is a 2012 re-release 200gm vinyl. Sounds really nice. I do have a copy of the original vinyl but it has been played so many times I thought I would try a new copy.
