What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Sinatra at the Sands: This is one of the good MOFI reissue.

When you are in a mood for a lounge lizard, nothing beats this album.

Stephen Kovacevich shows himself to be spiritual cousin to Maurizio Pollini in his performance of the waltzes. Don't look for ballroom sensibilities here, these are straight-up, fastish performances with more than a dash of impetuousness. Rubato is used effectively but sparingly. Even in this lighter music, Chopin shows himself to be a man of light and shade, and Kovacevich is very good at bringing out this aspect.

Cheers,
